Frontend AClimate¶
Container: JavaScript, Next JS
The frontend is the main web application of the platform, built with Next.js. It provides users with access to climate data through several functional modules.
Home¶
The Home module serves as the entry point of the platform. It presents a summary of current climate conditions for the configured country and provides navigation to the main sections of the application. Its purpose is to give users an immediate overview of relevant climate information without requiring deep navigation.
Responsibilities
- Present a summary of current climate conditions.
- Provide access to the different modules of the platform.
- Display the climate measures configured for the active country.
Key functionalities detailed:
- Climate overview — Shows current conditions for the selected country.
- Module navigation — Provides quick access to stations, spatial data, and other sections.
Stations¶
The Stations module allows users to explore the network of weather stations available in the platform. Users can view stations on an interactive map, search by name or region, and access detailed information for each station. Its purpose is to provide access to location-specific climate data for analysis and decision making.
Responsibilities
- Display available weather stations on an interactive map.
- Allow searching and filtering stations by name, region, or data source.
- Provide access to station dashboards with historical data, indicators, and forecasts.
Key functionalities detailed:
- Station map — Shows all stations geographically with the ability to select one.
- Station search — Filters stations by name or criteria.
- Station dashboard — Displays historical data, climate indicators, and forecasts for a selected station.
- Data download — Allows exporting station data for offline analysis.
Spatial data¶
The Spatial module provides interactive maps that display climate layers over geographic areas. These maps are rendered using data served from GeoServer and include time dimension animation. Its purpose is to allow users to explore climate variables across regions and observe their evolution over time.
Responsibilities
- Display interactive maps with spatial climate layers from GeoServer.
- Provide time animation to observe climate evolution across dates.
- Visualize spatial distributions of precipitation, temperature, and other variables.
Key functionalities detailed:
- Interactive maps — Shows spatial climate layers over a base map.
- Time animation — Allows viewing how conditions evolve over different dates.
- Layer selection — Users can toggle between climate variables and data sources.
Scenarios¶
The Scenarios module allows users to explore different possible climate conditions and understand how they might affect agricultural planning. Its purpose is to support long-term decision making by visualizing potential future conditions.
Responsibilities
- Allow exploration of climate scenarios under different projections.
- Visualize potential future conditions for agricultural planning.
- Support risk assessment and decision making.
Key functionalities detailed:
- Scenario exploration — Users can select parameters to visualize potential conditions.
- Planning support — Provides context for long-term agricultural decisions.
